The department caters to needs of a large number of outpatients and inpatients every year. Situated in the tertiary hospital campus, the department provides services to all patients who report from the surrounding local areas, but also from far off places:

Management of

  • Skin diseases like white spots, eczema and others
  • Sexual dysfunction, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS

  • Hair diseases like loss of hair, excess face/body hair

  • Warts and skin tags by radiofrequency, electrocautery, CO2 laser and by freezing (cryotherapy)
  • Pigmentation, acne, acne scars, facial hair and facial rejuvenation by IPL
  • Hair loss by PRP (platelet rich plasma)
  • Non-healing ulcers by PRP
  • White spots and other skin diseases by narrowband UVB (light treatment)

Special highlights:

  • PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapyis a novel treatment used worldwide. A small volume of blood is taken from the patient, and after treating it through centrifuge machine, portion rich in plasma is injected locally to treat certain types of hair loss. It is also being used to treat wounds (ulcers) which are not healing. This treatment is available with expert hands locally at the department.
  • Narrowband UVB (light treatment)therapy equipment (machine) is available in the department. It is aimed at treating some skin conditions by showing special UVB light to the affected area for a short duration. The treatment has to be repeated few times. The advantage of the treatment is that each session lasts for only a few minutes and therefore it is not only effective, it saves time as well.
  • Radiofrequency, electrocautery and cryotherapy treatments are very effective for removal of warts.
  • CO2 ablative laser machineis available at the department. This laser is quite effective in removing skin tags, warts and xanthelesma (yellow spots on upper and lower eyelids).
  • IPL (intense pulse light) treatmentis a useful therapy for certain types of pigmentation, acne, acne scars, and facial rejuvenation and for excessive facial hair.
  • Cryotherapy (cold treatment by liquid nitrogen)available at the department for freezing warts
  • Specialist services for HIV/AIDSpatients including counseling, diagnosis and treatment
  • Specialist services for children with skin problemsincluding genetic conditions
  • Histopathology (biopsy), fungal tests including culture available at the hospital.
